Obituary

Mr. Theodore "Ted" Lee Shannon, affectionately known as "Honey", was born to the late Thorton Shannon, Sr. and Bertha Lee Shannon Glenn in Winston-Salem on October 9, 1942. Ted peacefully departed this life on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. In addition to his parents Ted was preceded in death by three brothers, Thorton Shannon, Jr., Jessie Shannon and Michael Shannon.

Ted attended Dunbar High School in Salisbury, NC. After graduating from high school, Ted returned to Winston-Salem and held several positions with different organizations, eventually retiring from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after more than thirty years of service. Ted was a member of the Masonic Bivouac Lodge No. 503. Ted was a member of Saint Mark Baptist Church in the early years and later frequented New Bethel Baptist Church.

Ted leaves to cherish loving memories and the legacy of his love to his devoted wife, Jacqueline Shannon of the home; two step-children, William (Andrea) Dodd and Sabrina (Jerry) McClure of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Joseph (Ida) Shannon of Winston-Salem, NC; devoted cousins, David (LaWanda) Lee of Eastover, SC and Dorothy Lee Eldridge of Winston-Salem, NC, eight sisters-in-law, Gail (Herb) Culbreath, Peggy (Donald) Clark, Gwen (Ralph) Moore, Kim (David) Summers, Jeanette (George) Hatcher, Annette (Nemar) Anderson, Elaine (James) Eller, and Linda (William) Carter; three brothers-in-law, Terry (Deborah) Myers, Richard (Crystal) Watts, Jr., and Victor (Tonya) Watts; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm Friday, June 5, 2015 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Kendall D. Jones officiating. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, W-S, NC. The family will greet friends from 12:30pm until 1:30pm on Friday at the Church.

The family would like to especially thank the ICU Medical Doctors from Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center for the exemplary care provided during his stay.
