Theodore Emmanuel Evans, 78, was born on July 4, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Theodore, Sr. and Grace Evans. He was taken unexpectedly from this world on Wednesday Dec. 29, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Health.
Known as "Ted" to his close family and friends, he was a businessman who used his skills to open Econoline Insurance Agency in July 1994, which he later sold to Allstate. He was charismatic and outgoing. He was active in the community and participated in several organizations including the YMCA, Prison Ministries, and was an active member of First Baptist Church until his health declined.
In 2007 he ran for Mayor of Winston-Salem. He was also a proud member of the Ionic Masonic Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Kimbrough Evans; five step-children, Ianthe (Steve) Nivens, Ronald (Sharon) Gray, Darlene Legette, Henry (Matilda) Gray, and Tina Barrett; brothers, Max Evans and James (Pat) Hayes; sisters, Sharon Ann Hendricks, Glenda Kay Davis, and Valerie (Michael) Funches; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday January 3, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 700 Highland Ave. W-S, NC with Rev. Glenn Pettiford officiating. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Church.
