Thelma Jarrett Pigford departed this life unexpectedly on August 14, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 26, 1935 to William and Irene Jarrett. She was a 1953 Graduate of Atkins High School and a devoted member of Union Chapel Baptist Church where her God-Given gift was teaching. She was a former president of W-S Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women and she was the president of the Ideal Greenway Community Club.
Mrs. Pigford was an avid homemaker and a President's Club Representative for Avon Products, Inc. for 44 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Amos E. Pigford; she was the mother of three children, Ronald Pigford of Winston-Salem, NC, Evelyn 'Rose' Acree (Fred) and William 'Sid' Pigford (deceased); three grandchildren, Rhonda Smith, Alexus Acree, and Jeremiah Pigford; a special great-aunt, Milrose Shores; and a devoted niece, Karen Jarrett; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12noon Friday, August 20, 2010 at Union Chapel Baptist Church, 300 W. 25th Street Winston-Salem, NC with Reverend Konnie G. Robinson, pastor. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
