On January 21, 2021 Thelma Stewart Greene's sweet and vivacious spirit embraced life in Heaven. Thelma was the eldest of three children born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 10, 1927 to the union of the late Clarence and Naomi Stewart. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her two brothers, Clarence Stewart, Jr. and Dr. Donald Stewart.
Thelma accepted Christ at a very young age and was a lifelong member of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a dedicated member of the congregation; faithfully serving as a member of the Altar Guild.
During the year of 1953, Thelma married the late William R. Greene and to this union two daughters were born, Pamela Bridget Greene and Carol Denise Greene Mitchell. During the year of 1987, Thelma married the late Herbert Clardy.

Upon graduation from Fisk University, she went to work with the New York State Migrant Child Care Welfare Program. While residing in New York, Thelma attended school at Cornell University and was instrumental in setting up a child-care center. After returning to her beloved Baltimore in 1950, she held positions at the Census Bureau, Veterans Administration and Department of Social Services. Having come full circle in her thirst for education and desire to help others, she remained with the school system until her retirement in July of 1983.
Thelma was a Golden Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. having been initiated in Pi Chapter of Fisk University in 1947. She was a longtime member of the Epsilon Omega Chapter in Baltimore, MD.
