On August 13, 2021, at Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Tecora Haney, 94, of Winston-Salem, NC went on to meet her Heavenly Father. Mrs. Haney was born June 8, 1927, in Iago, West Virginia. She is survived by five loving children, Norma Jean Manns (Lonnie) of Jonesville, NC, Woodrow Haney, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC, Shirley Brown (Zannie) of Winston-Salem, NC, Linda Moore of Winston-Salem, NC., and Larry Haney of New London, NC. Mrs. Haney is also survived by her devoted brother and sister, Melvin Hampton of Winston-Salem, NC, and Delores Robb of Ashburn Virginia. Mrs. Haney leaves behind to cherish her memories six grandchildren, Raynard Haney of Winston-Salem, NC, Angela Haney of Winston-Salem, NC Melody Russell (Jared)of Auburn, AL, Theresa Haney of Winston-Salem, NC, Karla Dolby (Terius) of Mableton, GA, Douglas Manns of Boonville, NC, and a host of great- grandchildren, loving family members, devoted caregivers, and many dear friends.
Mrs. Tecora Haney was married to her faithful soul mate for over 70 years, Mr. Woodrow B. Haney, Sr. who preceded her in death. Mrs. Haney was also the daughter of Adam Grant Hampton and Selena Jenkins Hampton who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Claude Hampton, William Hampton, Helen Mae Hampton Steele, Carolyn Whitehead Smith, and El Willie Blaylock.
Mrs. Haney's spiritual journey began at a very early age. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She later moved her membership to New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend Ronald Speas.
Mrs. Haney never met a stranger, she embraced many children and treated them as if they were her own. She was known by many as Ma Haney or Mother Haney. Mrs. Haney was very active in Sethos Court # 105 until her health began to decline. She was also Past Commandress of the Sethos #105 Court.
Mrs. Haney worked as a cosmetologist by trade and a maintenance supervisor for 15 years at Winston-Salem State University. She also mentored younger girls and encouraged them to continue their education under the leadership of Mrs. Florrie Russell at a continuing education center. Mrs. Haney was well known for her culinary talents which included her yeast rolls, chicken casseroles, and homemade cakes which won her many accolades around the city. She was also honored by WXII News for her delicious meals and dishes.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Thursday, August 19, 2021 at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
