Mrs. Talathia G. Houston, affectionately known as "Miss T", was born in Chester, SC on June 21, 1933 to Albert Gibson and Bertha Grant. She transitioned peacefully on June 2, 2016 at Sunrise Senior Living Facility (Brighton Gardens) here in the city surrounded by her family.
She was married to her husband Mr. Samuel O. Houston, Jr. for more than 50 years. To this union were born three sons.
She was a long time member in good standing at First Calvary Baptist Church where she faithfully served on the Nurse's Board. She was employed by both R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and Winston-Salem Forsyth County School District until her retirement.
She was known and truly admired for her sharp sense of style. If you looked up "FASHIONISTA" in the dictionary her picture would surely be there. When she wasn't traveling stateside or to some exotic overseas location she enjoyed spending time with her friends or hunting for hidden treasures in antique shops. Being the avid gardener that she was you would oftentimes find her tending her magnificent showcase ready flowerbeds at her home and around her church property.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Marcus L. Houston; sister, Carrie Bell Grant; grandson, Kelseie Ferguson; and great grandson, Master Noah Amir Houston.
She was survived by two sons, Samuel (Barbara) and Jonathan (Phyllis); two sisters, Janie Grant and Thelma Smith; two grandsons, Jonathan and Marcus Houston; three granddaughters, Addie Houston, Angelica Davis, and Cherise Fretwell; great grandson, Nasser Idrissa; two first cousins, Bertha Grant of W-S, NC and Floyd Grant of Chester, SC; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at First Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Derwin Montgomery, officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Tuesday at the Church.
