Stephan Letae McMillian, 41 passed away Friday, December 16, 2022. He was born on Friday, November 13, 1981 to Michelle McMillian and Stephan Terry. Stephan McMillian was an entrepreneur and had multiple stores and businesses within the Winston-Salem community.
As a child, Stephan played football for the Kernersville Raiders and baseball at Twin City.
Stephan was a 2001 graduate of Lift Academy, where he was a star running back on the football team. He also attended and played football at RJ Reynolds High School.
Stephan was a devoted father to 5 children, his 3 sons, Jayshawn McMillian, JaQuan McMillian, and Stephan McMillian, Jr.; and his 2 daughters, Zariya Harris and Taylor McMillian.
They could always count on him to show up and be there for support. He was known at their schools and made sure they knew his expectation of doing well in school. He loved his children and his family and would have done anything for them.
Stephan developed a love for youth sports and the opportunities it provided for our youth. Stephan began coaching at the Tiny Vikings where his son Jayshawn was a player. He instilled the love of football in all his boys, training them and teaching them the game at a young age. Stephan coached 10 years for a variety of teams in the Winston Salem community. He was a great coach and mentor. He would often provide financial support; as well as transportation for many players so that they had the opportunity to play. He coached a lot of the city's best talent including his 3 sons Jayshawn, Jaquan, and Stephan. His son, Jaquan McMillian has gone on to pursue his football career in the NFL. He had planned to return to coaching next year so that he could have an impact on his nephews. Stephan also spent his last years dedicated to helping his youngest daughter, Taylor McMillian, as she pursues her talents in track and field.
Stephan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary Evans and Clarence McMillian, John and Irene Terry; his niece, Le'ana McMillian; and his uncles, Dwight Evans and Kewuan Lineburger.
To carry on his memory, he leaves behind his parents, Michelle McMillian and Stephan Terry; his children, Jayshawn McMillian, Jaquan McMillian, Stephan McMillian Jr., Zariya Harris, and Taylor McMillian; his 3 sisters, Porchia McMillian, Devita Foster, and Andrea Foster; his brother, Semaj Written; along with aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also, some of his other close beloved friends and family include, Cle McMillian, Chrishawn Rhyne, Kevin Holman, Kenny O'Neil, Dwight Reid, CJ Mason, Curtis Mashack, Robert Cross Jr., and Tim "Boo" Bristo; in addition to his long term-partner, Lakelia Wardlow.
Stephan will be most remembered for his kind heart, charisma and beautiful smile. He had a spirit that was so rich that everyone around him felt his love.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, December 30, 2022 at Solely for Christ Ministries, 1538 Waughtown St. Winston-Salem, NC 27107 with Bishop Todd L. Fulton presiding. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.
