Solomon Montgomery, age 63, of Winston-Salem, NC peacefully passed away on May 15, 2021. He was born in Florence, SC on May 3, 1958 to Roosevelt and Kay Eaddy Montgomery.
After his family relocated, he attended public schools in Winston-Salem and graduated from East Forsyth High School. There he excelled in football and was offered a scholarship to attend college. After weighing his options, he elected to join the U.S. Army in 1977. He served for seven years, earned the rank of Specialist 4 and distinguished himself by receiving many recognitions including that of Sharpshooter and Tactical Wire Operator Specialist. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he returned to Winton-Salem and found his calling during his employment at Amos Cottage, a therapeutic center for children.
He was a very faithful member of Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he was active with the Sunday School. Always ready to offer a song of praise, he was a member of the Mass Choir and served as its chaplain. Additionally, he worked with the sound technicians ensuring that every note and every word during services was heard. Always ready to serve, he was a member of the Pastor's Aide and Men's Ministry, served as Young Adult Missionary Associate Director and Church Van Driver. Not only was he an exemplary model for the youth, he was exceptional working with older adults. Those in his Northwoods Estates Community were glad to call him "neighbor".
Solomon was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Montgomery of the home; sons, Adrian (Leigh Anne) Montgomery of Charlotte, NC and Anthony Montgomery of Pittsburg, PA; daughter, Michelle Montgomery of Pittsburg, PA; his mother, Kay Montgomery of the home; five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; siblings, Roger (Nora) Montgomery of Atlanta, GA, Frances Montgomery (Johann) and Donnie Montgomery both of the city; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and extended family.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Mars Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00pm Wednesday, May 26, 2021 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
