On Thursday, January 2, 2014, God looked down from Heaven and picked a precious flower from His beautiful garden.
Ms. Shirley Ann Thomas Smith, a native of Bishopville, SC was born on May 9, 1943 to the late Lewis and Virginia Marshall. She was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. Shirley retired from Salem Academy and College after 50 years of service as a Baker. She was a long time devoted member of Reynolds Temple CME Church.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Thomas, Sr., James Thomas, Jr., and Freddie Thomas.
Ms. Thomas Smith leaves to cherish her fond memories her two devoted sons and a devoted daughter-in-law, Victor Thomas of the city and Terry (Aretta) Smith, Jr., Rural Hall, NC; five grandchildren, Vontae' Ashby, DeVaun Hairston, Patryce Penn, Dawaun Smith, and Victoria Thomas; one great grandson, Dylan Smith and a great granddog, Max Smith; sister-in-law, Minnie Thomas; a stepbrother, Bobby (Laverne)McCray of Shelby, NC; her longtime best friend Terry Smith, Sr., of the city; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Reynolds Temple CME Church with Rev. Angela Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12pm until 1pm on Wednesday at the Church.
