Mrs. Shirley F. Lewis departed this life on Friday, July 17, 2009 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center.
She was born on February 23, 1946 in Forsyth County to James D. and Jessie P. Lewis. She was educated in the public schools of Winston-Salem and was a graduate of Paisley High School. She furthered her education at Forsyth Technical Community College where she obtained her LPN licenses in nursing and later obtained an associate degree in nursing as a Registered Nurse from Surry Community College.
She was employed at WFU/Baptist Medical Center for more than 30 years and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter D. Hairston; and her sister, Mary L. Truesdale.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted daughter, Carla Y. Hairston; one son, Robert L. Hairston; grandson, Joshua D. Harrison; one brother, Amos Lewis; three sisters, Lillian Ellison, Bernice Hunt, and Christine (Robert) Marlin; a very special great-nephew, Xavier Webster all of the city; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shirley was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, July 24, 2009 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 1pm on Thursday at the Chapel.
