Ms. Shirley Oliver Gibson, 81, departed from this life and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, following a period of illness. Shirley was born in Winston-Salem, NC on March 2, 1936.

Ms. Gibson was a retired office manager for the State of North Carolina Cherry Street Prison. She was a 1998 graduate of Shaw University where she earned her BA Degree. She also served in the capacity of one of the prior presidents for the Winston-Salem Chapter of the Shaw University Alumni. Ms. Gibson was a member of St. Peter's Church and World Outreach Center.  Shirley loved researching and documenting her family history. In her earlier years she played the organ for various churches and traveled around singing with a group called the Service Gospel Singers.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie A. Oliver; and a sister, Dorothy Simpson. Left to share her wonderful memories are her two children, son, Galen Dewayne (Jana) Myers and daughter, Sandra (Bobby) Brown; four grandchildren, Tara (Greg) Sherrod, Isaiah Myers, Michael Brown, and Stephon Wolford; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Sherrod, Ariya Sherrod and Rian Wolford; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Monday, October 2, 2017 at St Peter's Church and World Outreach Center. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Monday at the Church.
