Mrs. Shirley W. Carter 69 of 5128 Britt Drive was born August 17. 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Jefferson Morris Sr. and Mildred Whitlock. Mrs. Carter was reared in the home of her aunt and uncle the late Mr. James and Mrs. Florence Wall. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and departed this life on Thursday August 12, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness.
Survivors are two daughters, Carmen and Carroll Carter; one son, Christopher Carter; mother, Mildred Wright; three brothers, Jeff, George, and James Morris; four sisters, Betty and Linda Morris, Aleane Bohannon, and Jacqueline Wright ; three granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday August 17, 2010 at Saint James AME Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Tuesday at the church.
The family will receive family and friends at the home of Chris Carter at 5686 Chancellorsville Dr. Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
