Obituary
Shirley Temple Ashford Nesmith, born to Annie and Mark Nesmith on December 24, 1935. She went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 9, 2009.
She is preceded in death by her parents, nine sisters, and three brothers.
She leaves to cherish two sons, Fleming Ashford, II of Winston-Salem, NC and Mark Ashford of Rochester, NY; one daughter, Shirl Onagoruwa (Adediran) of Winston-Salem, NC; seven grandchildren, including a devoted granddaughter and grandson, Arelia Ashford and George Ervin, III of Winston-Salem, NC; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Edwards (Roosevelt) of Winston-Salem and Rebecca English of Baltimore, MD; four brothers, Mark Nesmith, Jr. of Miami, FL, Herman Nesmith of Winston-Salem, NC, her twin brother, Hurley Nesmith of Baltimore, MD, and Maceo Nesmith (Geanette) of Baltimore, MD; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Saturday, March 14, 2009 at New Light Baptist Church 1527 E. 15th St., Winston-Salem, NC with Pastor Anthony Johnson of New Life Community Missionary Church officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm Saturday at the church.
