"Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise."
Luke 23:43
Sherry Doris Renee' Wolford Pharr was born February 2, 1959, to Lorenza Wolford and Doris Hash Wolford, in Pulaski, Virginia.
Sherry moved with her parents and siblings to Winston-Salem the same year that she was born and lived here for the duration of her life. She graduated from East Forsyth Senior High class of 1977. After graduation Sherry worked in the health care profession for several years which included earning her phlebotomy license and working for the American Red Cross as a phlebotomist before moving on to employment at the department of clinics at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Sherry was a quiet but assertive soul and did not shrink from a challenge which is why she was able to so effortlessly master whatever she set out to accomplish.
Sherry and her family joined the then People's Choice A.M.E. Zion Church in 1959. The name of the church was later changed to John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church. She was very active in the church as a child, teenager, and young adult ranging from singing on the children's choir, ushering, member of Sunday School and Varick Christian Endeavor, to name only a few. Sherry especially loved Vacation Bible School, Easter (egg hunts) and Homecoming Day. She called these days "fun church days."
Sherry loved her family. But the three apples of her eye were her daughter, Tamika; her son, Stephon; and her precious little granddaughter, Rian; who she could talk about and smile about all day long. She was loved by her neighbors who spoke of her kindness and willingness to always share.
On February 24, 2020, in the evening, God took Sherry in His arms and carried her to her eternal home.
Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Hash Wolford.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Tamika Rochelle Wolford and son, Stephon Maurice (Sherrie) Wolford both of W-S, NC; granddaughter, Rian Marie Wolford of W-S, NC; father, Lorenza Wolford of W-S, NC; six sisters, Ava (Benjamin, Sr.) Morrow of Belmont, NC, Veronica Hash Price, Rebecca (Eric) Simon, Betty (Samuel) Cook, and Mae (James) Oakes all of W-S, NC, and April (Nathaniel) Berry of Belews Creek, NC; one brother, Daniel Lorenza Wolford of W-S, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, March 2, 2020 at John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church with Reverend Joshua Holmes officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
