Mrs. Shantea Rena Carter, age 59, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away on January 29, 2026. Shantea was born and raised in east Winston-Salem, NC. She was a proud 1986 graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School. In her latest career, she dedicated 17 years of service to Krispy Kreme, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dependable nature.
A woman of deep faith, Shantea was a faithful member of St. Peter's World Outreach Center, where she served in the choir and was an active and committed member of her cell group ministry. Her love for God guided her life, and her favorite words, "Trust God and Believe," reflected the way she lived each day.
Shantea also gave her time and heart to the nonprofit organization J's Journey 2 Joy & Passing of a Mother's Child, where she faithfully served as Treasurer and a member of the decoration committee. She was very creative in creating the Treat Bags for the organization's events. She believed in helping others through difficult times and worked quietly but faithfully behind the scenes to make a difference.
She was a passionate and dependable friend — someone everyone could count on. Though naturally an introvert, her love ran deep, especially for her family, whom she cherished dearly. She led by example with strength, faith, and compassion. Shantea was a devoted wife and mother whose life touched many.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nannie Mae Crump; and her brothers, James Crump and Kenny Crump.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her devoted husband, Kelvin Carter; her sons, Cammarious Crump and Kelvin Carter, Jr.; her god-daughters, Nichole Glenn and Ausha Bruton; and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother-in-love, Ms. Bobbie Payne.
Her siblings who mourn her passing include Melvin (Sandra Kay) Crump, Jackie Clowe, LaDoris Martin, Kathy Dorsett, Alfred (Crystal) Crump, Daphne Smith, Kelvin (Donna) James, Darryl James, Dedrick Crump, Marion McCoulgh, Maurice Grier, and Rev. Marilyn Little; along with one aunt, Betty C. McLean. She will be deeply missed by her devoted sister and friend, Angela Carter; her brothers-in-love, Artemus (Sheron) Carter and Charles Carter; her sister-in-love, Shelia (Javier) Paris; and her best friend, Sateria Bruton.
Also missing her dearly are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Shantea's kindness, faith, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
