Mr. Sextus Alexander Hairston, 57, departed this life Saturday, October 8, 2011 at his home. He was a native of Midway, NC, born May 24, 1954 to Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Bernice Hairston.
Sextus was a graduate of North Davidson High School and retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company after 35 years of service. He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and in his younger days played softball in various leagues in the city.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Hairston, Jr.
Sextus is survived by his mother and father, Thomas and Bernice Hairston of Midway, NC; his former wife, Dorothy T. Hairston; two children, Lamont Hairston of Norfolk, VA and Deandria Hairston of the city; two grandchildren, Adriana and Dakaria Hairston of California; two sisters, Priscilla (Ed) Hugley and Cynthia (Terry) Vick of Georgia; three brothers, Larry (Pearlenia) Hairston of the city, Jerome (Freda) Hairston of Welcome, NC, and Lawrence (Delma) Hairston of High Point, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Phillips Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
