Mr. Selevester Mitchell, lovingly known by family and friends as "Ves" and "Mitch" transitioned from his life on December 1, 2023.  Selvester was born April 30, 1941, in Winston-Salem, NC, to the late George Andrew Mitchell and the late Mildred Searcy Mitchell.  He was raised in a loving family along with his siblings. He attended Kimberly Park, Paisley, and Atkins High School, where he enjoyed sports and spending time with friends. Selvester joined the US Air Force in 1960 and served as a structural technician with the Air Force Civil Engineer squadron. During his time in the Air Force, he received numerous awards and medals. To name a few, Vietnam Service medal with 3 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. Selvester retired from the US Air Force as a Tech Sergeant with 20 years of service. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Enjoyed dancing, Reggae music, attending shows and festivals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Andrew Mitchell and Mildred Searcy Mitchell; his brother, George L. Mitchell (Pauline); and his sisters, Hattie Mack (Larnce) and Margaret Ann Brown; and brother-in-law, Andy Barber.

Selvester Mitchell leaves to cherish his memories two beautiful daughters Erica and Melita; two brothers, James Mitchell (Dorothy Mitchell) and Alfonzo Mitchell; two sisters, Catherine M. King (Bronson King), and Gloria M. Barber; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friend, Earnest Carson.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, December 15, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Chapel.

Interment will be held at 2:00pm Monday, December 18, 2023 in Salisbury National Cemetery.
