Obituary

Sarah Louise McCracken Hart peacefully departed this earth on February 26, 2014. She was born on July 18, 1922 in New Berry, SC to the late Annie Mae McCracken and John Davis. She moved to Winston-Salem at an early age. She graduated from Atkins High School in 1941.

Sarah was a charter member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. She attended church faithfully until her health declined. She was a former member of the Senior Choir, the Spiritual Choir, and she also taught Sunday school. She loved her church and her pastor. You could find her on Sunday mornings standing tall, clapping her hands, and swaying from side to side praising and worshiping God. When asked, what is your favorite Bible verse? She answered, "The 23rd Psalms, because the Lord is my Shepherd."

Her former employers were RJ Reynolds, The Convention Center, and the Forsyth County School System, but she was mostly a home maker. She was blessed with 10 children.

On January 16, 2006 she moved to Woodland Place, now The Crest of Clemmons (an assisted living facility). She easily adapted to her new life style, and everyone there adored her because of her unique personality.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Hart; her daughter, Sandra Lorraine McCracken; her sister, Lily Mae Griffin; and a brother, John Lee Davis.

Those surviving to cherish her memory are daughters, Barbara W. McCracken and Zenobia M. Walker (Chauncey) both of Hampton, VA, Linda Lindsay, Vera H. Wardlow (David), and Jimmice H. Jones all of the city; sons, Clarence Hart (Melinda), Minister Sherman Hart (Wanda), and Pastor Paul Hart (Sandra) all of the city, and Pastor Silas Hart (Branelsia) of Jefferson, NC; brother, W.C. Davis (Ruby) and one sister, Helen Skeens (Albert) both of Thomasville, NC, sister, Barbara Jean Davis of Mt. Clemmons, MI, and a brother, Earl Davis of the Bronx, NY; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; along with a special cousin, Donzella Tyson; a special friend, Edith Myers; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Nathan Scovens officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Tuesday at the Church.
