Sara Elizabeth Herring, 54, was born November 16, 1965 in Duplin County, NC to Lawrence F. Herring and Ida Elizabeth Bryant. She departed her earthly life on July 8, 2020 at her residence in Winston-Salem, NC.
She was a graduate of James Kenan High School in Warsaw, NC and formerly employed by Sara Lee and Corning Cables.
Her favorite things to do included cooking, eating seafood, sewing, shopping, having long conversations, and fishing. Her favorite comedian was Bernie Mac and she absolutely loved music, especially slow jams, and visiting the place that she called home, Rose Hill, NC.
Sara was a hardworking and dedicated mother, as one of her favorite sayings was, "That's all I know is to work and take care of my kids." She always voiced her opinion whether you wanted to hear it or not. She made sure you knew how she felt. She never sugar-coated anything, this being how she showed her genuine love for you. And while she may have not always used the correct words, if you knew her, then you knew exactly what she was trying to say. While enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, shopping, Sara would make sure that you were getting something too. If she was eating, she made sure that you got full before she did. If you needed a bed to lay in, she would give you hers and she would sleep on the couch. Once you started a conversation with her, you better make sure that you had some time on your hands because she would have you talking for hours.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jeremiah Herring and Lurther Mae Herring.
Left to cherish her memories and never forget her love are her children, Thomas V. (Victoria) Herring, Jr. and Andrea Herring; grandson, Ze'maj Williams who was her first baby that she loved unconditionally. She was his best friend and he told her things that he wouldn't tell his own mother. He spent a lot of days with her and she took him and picked him up from school. He enjoyed staying with her and would always ask can I stay with grandma? Her granddaughter, Raelynd Gray was her baby. She helped her as much as she could and always checked on her when she felt like something wasn't right. "Grandma's Helper" always told her that she loved her. When she didn't see her grandchildren, she would be sure to call and ask what was going on and where they were; her four brothers, Keith Herring who was her best friend and helped her whenever she needed help. They were one in the same and he was one of her caretakers when she became sick. Whenever she called, he came. They would argue and then laugh., Lawrence Herring who was her big brother that helped raise and guide her. She obtained most of her advice from him., Daryl West and Eric West; sisters, Jeannette Chester, Sabrina Herring, and Chareesce Herring; a devoted niece and nephew, Keith (Demeka) Herring and Kiona Herring; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 12noon until 5:00pm Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 in Rose Hill, NC.
