Sara S. Elliott was the fourth child born to the late James H. and Lee Ella Stroud on December 1, 1924 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She answered the call to rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Sara was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. There she completed elementary school, middle school and was a graduate of Atkins High School. She continued her education, receiving her Bachelor's degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. Sara was employed in the Charlotte, North Carolina school system for many years until she ventured to the Washington, DC/ Baltimore area. There, she continued working in the Baltimore school system until she transferred her skills to the United States Library of Congress, in the capacity as Head Research Librarian for over thirty plus years.
Sara was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, DC until her return home to Winston-Salem. Always making time when her listening ear was needed and in her unassuming manner shared her deepest sincerity, guidance and love. Sara loved music and would dance!, dance!, dance! She also loved to cook often trying new recipes. Yes, the food was good.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Norville and Spurgeon Stroud; and her sister and friend, Dorothy L. Stroud.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Erline Dennis of High Point, North Carolina; son, Dwight (Katie) Nago of South Carolina; nieces, Janice Ramadan and Kilm McDougal of Winston-Salem, NC; nephews, Alphonso (Betty) Dickey of Winston-Salem, NC and Amir Ahmed of Phoenix, AZ; niece, Patricia White of New Jersey; a host of grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephew, great-great-nephew, other family and friends.
"Sara will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her." "We Love You Auntie, but God Loves You More"
