Obituary

Sandra Priscilla Ledbetter Piercy was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on December 21, 1950 to Ruth Ballentine Ledbetter and the late James Ledbetter. She departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 after an extended illness.

She grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and was educated in the Winston-Salem public school system graduating in 1969 from Atkins High School. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Winston-Salem State University in 1973. During her years at Winston-Salem State University, she became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Upon graduation from college, Sandra began work in Virginia as a pre-school teacher. She later joined the City of Richmond Social Services Department where she remained employed until her illness.

She was a former member of First Institutional Baptist Church (United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church) in Winston-Salem, NC where she was a member of the Young Adult Choir. She later joined St. Paul's Baptist Church of Richmond, VA where she was a member of the Gospel Creations Choir.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jo Yvette Ledbetter Hatcher.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Ruth B. Ledbetter; her brother, A. Wayne (Melissa) Ledbetter; her aunts, Bernice Ledwell of Greensboro, Alma R. Lewis of Phoenix, AZ, and Vivian L. Cox of Tucson, AZ; her uncles, Brian (Phyllis) Ballentine, Bruce (Sandra) Ballentine, and Samuel Lewis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a niece, Jaime E. Ledbetter; a great-nephew, James Anthony Belton; a brother-in-law, Fredrick Hatcher; a devoted friend, Sheila Trimmer of Aylett, VA; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, 450 Metropolitan Drive W-S, NC 27101 with Rev. Prince R. Rivers officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Wednesday at the Church.
