Sandra Yvonne Simmons Leak was surrounded by her family as she transitioned peacefully into the loving arms of her Eternal Father on the evening of May 30, 2023. She was the third child of eight born to the late Bishop Abraham Benjamin Simmons and Evangelist Juanita Covington Simmons on April 26, 1950 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Sandra attended the Forsyth County Public Schools, graduating from Paisley Senior High School and later attended Johnson C Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked in the banking sector throughout her professional career, specializing in collections. Sandra was a loving mother to her two children, Tonya Yvonne Leak and Gwathney Leak, Jr. Her children and her grandchildren were her greatest riches, besides her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Veronica Simmons Caree; and her daughter, Tonya Leak Vinson.

Fond memories will be cherished by her son, Pastor Gwathney Leak, Jr. (Nekecha); her nine grandchildren, Richard, Devaughn, Carson, Imani, Jaden, Saryah, Gabrielle, Lauryn, and Eden; two brothers, Deacon Benjamin Simmons and Deacon Marion Simmons; sisters, V. Lorraine S. Fuller of Washington, DC, Deborah S. Witherspoon, Pastor Vanessa S. (Bishop Kenneth) Steward, Shelia S. (Jimmy) Howell, and Bishop Delores Duren; her son-in-law, Richard Vinson; her best friends, Virginia Vaughn and Hellen Warren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00noon Wednesday, June 7, 2023 in Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gwathney Leak, Jr. officiating.
