Samuel Spann peacefully departed this earthly life for eternal life on May 19, 2023.  He was born December 5, 1940 in Manning, South Carolina to Willie and Nettie Collins Spann.

Samuel was educated in the public school system in Manning, SC.  After school he relocated to Thomasville, NC where he worked at Cunningham Brick and Jones Bakery.  There he met the love of his life, Mrs. Ruby Spann and relocated to Winston-Salem, NC.  Samuel was a quiet person. He enjoyed car racing, baseball, and playing the electric guitar.  He loved his family and friends, and he was always there with a helping hand.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his five brothers and three sisters.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Mrs. Ruby Spann; daughters, Tammie (Wayne) Crouch and Nicole Spann; son, Darren (Sha) Hunter; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Louvenia Dickson, Henrietta Paterson, Ulease Goines, and Lou Bertha (Russell) Nelson; brother, Alex (Joann) Spann; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, May 26, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Herbert Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Church.
