Mr. Samuel Martin Cook, Jr., the son of the late Samuel and Eva Cook passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 26, 2007.
Sam was born on January 9, 1945 in Winston-Salem, NC where he was a graduate of Atkins High School. He attended A&T State University and later graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College. Sam owned and operated Cook and Son Shoe Shop on 5th Street subsequent to his father who was the original owner on 3rd Street.
He leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Sabrina Simpson, Samantha (Toney) Fields, and Kimberly (Quentin) Hill; two sons, Samuel Martin (Betty) Cook III and Allen Young; ten grandchildren, Jolan Simpson, Maleka Martin, Satorius Moyer, Brandon Cook, Keauna Young, Kortney Davenport, Michael Davenport, Jr., Allen Young, Jr., Sirod Cook, and Hunter Hill; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Martin, Cam'Ron Russell, and Andrew Martin all of Winston-Salem, NC; a devoted cousin, Selena Nichols of Winston-Salem, NC; cousins, Jackie Cook and Jean Cook of Washington DC, Claudette Cook (Ben) Womack of Owings Mills, MD, and Alberta (William) Fulp, Alfred (Shirley)Brooks and Douglas Brooks of Walkertown, NC; a close friend Shirley Kirby of Winston-Salem, NC; many other relatives and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Monday, April 30, 2007 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Apostle Garland Wallace, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm on Monday at the Chapel.
