Sallie Virginia Robinson, 86, affectionately known to family and friends as "Jenny," went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 21, 1921 in Newberry, SC to Irene Dewalt Cooper and William Cooper.
She spent her early childhood in Davie County, Mocksville, NC before moving to Winston-Salem, NC over 60 years ago. She was a graduate of Atkins High School, Class of 1940, a member of St. James A.M.E. Church serving as a missionary and a stewardess, a homemaker, and a retired domestic worker.
"Jenny" was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
She leaves to cherish loving memories; her children, William Grant Robinson (Minister Andrea), Lucinda "Cindy" Walker, Gloria Jean Freeman (Russell, Sr.), and Michael Levi Robinson; grandchildren, James Alan Walker, Jr., Willa Denise Robinson, Russell McCoy Freeman, Jr., and Justin Duprei Freeman; great-grandchildren, Jae'lin McCoy Parker-Freeman, Brianna Denise Robinson, and Zoe Arionna Parker-Freeman; goddaughter Henrietta Rattley (Ralph); two devoted friends, Mrs. Frances Williams and Mrs. Harriett Cody; caring nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. James A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Benjamin F. Humphrey, Jr. officiating and the Rev. H.S. Williams as the eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until 1 pm Saturday at the church.
