Obituary

Mrs. Sallie Mae Brown McFadden departed this earthly life for her heavenly home Saturday morning February 25, 2023.  Mrs. McFadden was born in Florence County, South Carolina to Murray Lee Brown and Margaret Edward Brown.

Mrs. McFadden was a front-line soldier being baptized at age fifteen (15) at the St. James Baptist Church in Johnsonville, South Carolina. She was a faithful member of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, NC for over 60 years. While at Galilee she served in several capacities: the Deaconess Board, Usher Board, and she was installed as a Mother of the Church.

As the corner stone of her Bowen Park neighborhood, Mrs. McFadden was a member of the Bowen Park Community Club and a Member of the Eastern Star Bivouac Chapter#530 where she was beloved by many.  Her giving spirit led her to professional careers where she could be of service to others. She served as a School Guard for the Winston-Salem Police Department, Student Counselor for Goodwill Industries, Inc., and as a CNA.

Mrs. McFadden was married to the late George McFadden, Jr. for 48 years and to this union were four children, Kenneth (Debra), Isadore, Gwendolyn, and Timothy. She loved her grandchildren Philip and Kenza, however, her great-grandchildren, ZaKarii and Karter melted her heart. Mrs. McFadden is survived by a brother, Mr. Donnie Brown (Aubertine); brothers-in-law, Mr. Claire McFadden of South Carolina and Mr. Elgent Cooper of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters-in-law,Mrs. Mary Brown of Georgia, Mrs. Alberta Brown, and Mrs. Estelle McFadden both of Winston-Salem, NC; she also leaves behind many devoted nieces and nephews who loved their "Aunt Sallie".

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Nathan Scovens officiating.  Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
