"For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's

Romans 14:7

Sadie Mae Williams Beal was born in Shelton, Fairfield County, South Carolina on March 28, 1927.

Born to Lena Goodwin Williams and Will (Less) Williams, she was the third of five children in this union. A brother, James, did not survive beyond infancy. She and her remaining siblings were reared by a gentle mother with the support of an extended family of maternal and paternal grandparents.

At the age of eighteen, she relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She had come to visit for two weeks but she found gainful employment in factory work and made Winston-Salem her home. It was here where she met and married Oscar H. Beal (O.C.). This union was blessed with two children, Oscar Bernard, and Carrie Rugina.

Sadie was reared in the church and at her first opportunity she united with the Morning Star Missionary in 1945 and remained a faithful member for seventy-six years. During these years she served in many capacities; but, her heart belonged to the Senior Choir and the Missionary Ministries.

Sadie departed this earthly life on Monday, July 5, 2021, at the age of 94, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lena and Less; husband, Oscar (O.C.); son, Bernard; sister, Hattie Mack; and beloved brother, Will Williams, Jr. (Junebug).

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter Carrie and her loving and faithful son-in-law, Gregory Barnes; three devoted grandsons, Gregory, Jeffrey (Regina) and Jonathan; cherished great granddaughters, Rhayana (baby Zaniyah), Rhayven, Rhasha, Rachel, and Jaiyana. She is also survived by her sister, Carrie Louise McConnell of Blair, SC; the daughter of her heart, Velda (Dean) Smith; and loving niece, Lydia (Larry) Flynt.

For more than sixty years, she worked for the families of Athena and Gus Gallins and John and Jeannie Gallins. With these families she formed loving and unbreakable bonds. Her children of love are Penny, Karen, Vickie, Pat, Gussie, George, and Matthew. She loved all the grands, but her pride and joy is Eleni.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, her kind heart touched many. She will be missed by her best friend and sister of her heart, Mother Rosetta Harrell, her telephone buddies, Ruth Reaves and Sadie McQueen, her church family in its entirety, each member touched her heart in a special way.

She is further survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins: Williams, Arnette, Beal, Lyles, McConnell, and those of the Goodwin and Shelton lineages and friends.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff on the 9 th floor of WFBH, and the office of Dr. Steven Klein.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Friday, July 9, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.
