Ruth Trice Medlock departed this life on Saturday, January 4, 2014.
Ruth, the daughter of the late Thomas and Lula Trice, was born August 11, 1922 in Raleigh, NC. It was here she received her early schooling and religious training. She received a BA Degree from Shaw University. Further studies were completed at North Carolina Central University and Adelphi University School of Social Work, Garden City, NY.
New Bern, NC was also home to Ruth. Her entire teaching career was spent there until she moved to Winston-Salem in 1969. Once here, she joined United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church and became affiliated with the Hospitality/Ambassadors Club, the Gospel Choir, the Women's Fellowship Steering Committee, and the Special Needs Committee. For many years, Ruth served as Chairperson of the Annual Banquet.
At the time of her death, she was a retired supervisor of Social Services and Parent Involvement for Family Services Head Start Program.
As she loved her pastor and the church, she also loved her family and friends. Those who have been most keenly touched and share most deeply her memory include her loving husband of 52 years, James Medlock; God-daughters, Yolanda (Javaan) Lopez and Stephanye Kenyear; grandchildren, Casimira and Naylaan Lopez; nieces, Dianne and Desiree; nephews, David, Antione, and Jamal; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; special caring friends, Reverend Lizzie "LIZ" James; Emma Trotman, Valerie Sadler, Michelle Denning, and Betty Scott; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Friday, January 10, 2014 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Prince Raney Rivers officiating. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:30am on Friday at the Church.
