Mrs. Ruth Esther Hood, 83, departed this life peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2007. Mrs. Hood was born November 11, 1924 in Cary, NC to Hezekiah and Queenesther Evans. "Mue" as she was affectionately called her will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother as well as a devoted aunt. She was Co-Owner of Hood Grocery until her retirement.

Mrs. Hood was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James F. Hood: better known as "Mr. Green", her brother, Alfonzia Evans, and a sister, Mary Kellum.

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Clara (James, Sr.) Clyburn, Queenesther (Hubert, Jr.) Jeffries, and Janey (Waymond) Berry; one son, George (Janice) Powell, Jr. all of Winston-Salem, NC; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Gass; and a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, December 15, 2007 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James R. Clyburn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Chapel.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff on the 7th floor and the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center, Dr. Patricia Zekan and Dr. John Card.
