Russell Maynard Covington was the first born son of the late James and Thelma Covington.
He was a graduate of Carver High School and later entered into the United States Army for several years. Russell graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College with a degree in Welding and Mechanics. He was a long time employee of RJ Reynolds for 31 years until he retired in 2004.
Russell "Maynard" was loved by everyone. He was quiet, unique, and had meek mannerisms. He was a wonderful son, brother, father, grandfather, and husband. He strictly held to his word and devoted all his love to his friends and family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, David Wayne Covington, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Sharon Welch Covington; two sons, Gerald Scott Covington of Stokesdale, NC and David Wayne Covington of W-S, NC; one precious granddaughter, Domenique LaJoi Covington of W-S,NC; mother-in-law, Barbara W. Tyner of Kernersville, NC; one brother, James "Bubba" Covington; five sisters, Clara Benton, Phyllis Fleming, "Cookie" Kennedy, Brenda "Dumpie" Williams, and Guinda Covington all of W-S, NC; five brothers-in-law, Tommy Benton, Nathaniel Fleming, Daryll Gilliam, Barry Welch, and Garry Wayne Welch; one sister-in-law, Angela R. Gilliam; four aunts, Ruth Joel, Mary Jester, Diane Mills, and Helen Joel Robertson; two uncles, Cornelius Joel and William Wallace; three God-children, Brittany, Megan, and Scott Lamberth; he also had an extended family from his previous marriage to Brenda Carroll; his brothers-in-law, Napoleon (Glenda) Carroll, Marcus (Van) Carroll, and Chris (Joy) Carroll; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Timothy) Russum, Patricia (Ronnie) Hamlin, and Shirley (Conrad) Douthit; "The Bosses Crew", Richard Searcy, Ronald Fulp, Rodney Fulton, Johnny Searcy, Benny Golden, Ed Lowery, C.J. Bailey, Donnie Lash, Henry Chandler, Sammy Chakona, Jared Fulton, Bernard Watkins, Willie Hairston, Carvie Whitehead, and Harvey Eldrige.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. David W. Totten officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Church Cemetery Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 6pm until 8pm Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
