Obituary

Rudolph Valentino Morrison, Jr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother, was born November 21, 1953 to Rudolph, Sr. and Rubystene Morrison. He passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Sr. and Rubystene Morrison; his sister, Juanita R. Barnett; and his two brothers, Willis C. Morrison and Lester E. Howard.

Rudolph was a graduate of East Forsyth Senior High School where he was a player on the varsity basketball team. After graduation he joined the United States Army, where he was assigned as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After serving in the military, he returned home and started his career with the Winston-Salem Transit Authority as a bus mechanic. Through his hard work and dedication, he made his childhood wishes come true when he was promoted into a bus driver position and eventually becoming a supervisor. During his tenure as a bus driver for WSTA, Rudolph was honored to compete in both the state and international bus rodeos where he took first-place in the state competition and placed sixth in the international competition in Detroit. His expertise and skills as a driver and his love for people allowed him the privilege of driving for private chartered bus companies throughout the country and eventually drove for J.B. Hunt Trucking Company as a long-distance tractor trailer driver. He was an excellent artist and was passionate about his art, music and basketball.

He is survived by his children, Octavia Love and Valentino Adonis Friend both of Winston-Salem, NC, and Cassetta Scott of Garner, NC; grandchildren, Otteonna, Jermain, Jahsae, Madelene, Demesia, La'Nya, Kamija, Denise, and Jahseir all of Winston-Salem, NC, and Rashaundria, Jaylen, and Ayson all of Garner, NC; great-grandchildren, Ava, Raelynn, Kaidyn, and Devani all of Winston-Salem, NC and Noah of Garner, NC; brother, Broderick L Morrison of Richmond, VA; sister, Felecia R Morrison of Colfax, NC; and a host of loving and very special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Monday, February 10, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Chapel.

A special thank you to the devoted staff members at the Salisbury North Carolina State Veterans Home for the love, care and dedication provided to our loved one. We appreciate the patience, effort, and the extra-miles taken to ensure Rudolph needs were meet. He developed some very special friendships he really loved you all.
