Mrs. Rubye Kaye Dunlap Duckwilder was born on March 1, 1926 in Winston-Salem, NC to Porter and Fannie Dunlap. She experienced a brief illness and on October 21, 2019, she departed this life at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC .
Mrs. Duckwilder attended the public schools of Winston-Salem, NC. She continued her studies and earned an undergraduate degree at North Carolina College (now North Carolina Central University) in Business Education. After graduating, she moved to Washington, DC and earned a master's degree in Business Administration from George Washington University and attended American University for further study. Her professional career consisted of being a Government Specialist in the Pentagon in Washington, DC, a Government Facilitator in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and a Business Instructor at Spingard High School in Washington, DC.
Mrs. Duckwilder was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church until she married her college sweetheart John Duckwilder, a native of Washington, DC and joined St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was an involved member who worked with the financial committee and other organizations of the church.
Her other affiliations were a member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., National Business Association of America, and Staff Representative for Spingard High School.
Mrs. Duckwilder's greatest joys were travelling and attending the Redskins football games. She travelled worldwide and especially loved cruising as she would be formally dressed to take a photo with the Captain at dinner, experience different foods, and acquired many souvenirs. She was a faithful Redskin Fan and always purchased season tickets.
Mrs. Duckwilder was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Porter Dunlap; husband, John Duckwilder; aunt, Mrs. Naomi Morgan; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Martin, Ms. Georgia Dunlap, and Mrs. Gloria Price; one nephew, Marlon Martin; great nephews, Johnny Martin and Irvin Williams, III; and great niece, Fannie Price.
She leaves to celebrate her life two nephews, Robert Martin of High Point, NC and Fredrick (Doris) Martin; four nieces, Mrs. Deloris (Bobby) Gwyn, Mrs. Mable (Irvin) Shakir, Mrs. Eleanor (Shadrach) Golden of Winston-Salem, NC and Mrs. Sharon Baker of Lexington, NC; a cousin, Mrs. Doris Watson of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of great nephews and great nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Sherwood Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2:00pm on Monday at the Chapel.
