Obituary

"Who can find a virtuous woman?  For her price is far above rubies."

Mrs. Ruby Cooper Williams, 90, was born on July 12, 1927 in Florence County, South Carolina to the late James (Jim) Cooper and Rosetta Singletary Cooper.  She departed this life on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.  Ruby was the 6th child of 14 children.  She attended Ninevah and Bethel schools in Florence County, South Carolina.  Ruby loved basketball and played on a team in high school.

Later in life Ruby met the love of her life.  On October 23, 1948 she married the late Rev. Dr. Henry Williams, who departed this life on July 7, 2017.  She continued to farm in Lake City, South Carolina until 1953 when she and her family moved to Winston-Salem.  Some of her previous employment included Piedmont Leaf Tobacco, Hatteras Yacht, Fly Back, Durabilt and AMP where she retired.

Ruby was a member of Ninevah United Methodist Church, Lake City, SC.  After moving to Winston-Salem, she joined Union Bethel AME Church.  Buby attended the churches where her husband pastored in the Western North Carolina Conference for 35 years, with some charges in both the Eastern and Western Districts.  After her husband's retirement from pastoring, she regularly attended Faith Unity Missionary Church in Winston-Salem until declining health.

Cherishing her memories are two sons, Henry Jr. and Willie;  two daughters, Judy and Jannie; three granddaughters, Shawanda (Robert) Williams, Tiffany Taylor and LaTasha Williams and two great-granddaughters, Amisa Williamson and Kianna Williams all of Winston-Salem; one sister, Joann Cooper of Florence, SC; two sisters-in-law, Emma Jane Cooper and Alice Cooper Vaughn of Lake City, SC; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Dr. Hubert (Lula) Williams, Jacob (Cynthia) Williams of Winston-Salem and Alfonza Williams of Charlotte, NC; six sisters-in- law, Willie B. W. Singletary, Alberta W. Brown, Jannie W. Funderburk, Luvenia Williams and Lillie (Jerry) Thornton all of Winston-Salem and Eliza W. Spates of Huntersville, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, all the sitters who cared for her at her home and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, February 17, 2018 at St. James AME Church with Rev. Daren Funderburk officiating and Rev. Dr. Shirley W. Hines eulogist. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
