On August 11, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Ruby C. Charles, a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend went home to be with the Lord.
Ruby was born on July 19, 1944 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Vance Amos Correll and Beatrice Moore Correll.
She graduated from Carver High School in 1962 and Star Stenographic School of Business in 1963. She also attended Winston-Salem State University and Forsyth Technical College. Ruby retired with 32 years of service with Forsyth County Department of Social Services as unit manager and supervisor in the Child Support Enforcement Division. During retirement, she was area manager for Lankford Protective Services.
Mrs. Charles was a member of Carver Road Church of Christ and truly believed in being involved in her community. She was a member of the Belview Civic League and the Waughtown Preservation and Revitalization Coalition. Ruby was Past Worthy Matron of James H. Young Chapter #590, O. E. S. PHA. She also belonged to Sethos Court (105), Daughters of Isis and was currently serving as the Imperial Deputy of the Oasis of Winston-Salem.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret C. Branson and Vandelia C. Green; and four brothers, William L. Correll, Bobby L. Correll, Kennard R. Correll and Edward Correll.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband of 49 years, Beechie H. Charles, Sr.; one daughter, Angela C. (Rev. Gregory) Lee; and one son, Beechie H. Charles, Jr.; three grandchildren, Audrienna Charles, Alan Lee and Charles Lee; six sisters, Theresa C. Witherspoon, Alice C. (Samuel) Hawkins, Mary C. Williams, Marion C. (Bobby) Wofford, Veronica C. (Isaiah) Black and Sylvia (Lorenzo) Martin; three brothers, Vance Correll, Johnny (Shirley) Correll, and Dwight (Sharon) Correll; additional sisters-in-law, Johnnie M. Correll, Jane (Jack) McConnell, Elaine (Herman) Springs, and Geneva Clement; a brother-in-law, Wiley (Maxine) Charles; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Celebration of Life will take place at 1pm Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Carver Road Church of Christ 4399 Carver School Road W-S, NC with Brother Jefferson R. Caruthers, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The Eastern Star Ceremony will be held at 11am and the family will receive friends from 11:30am until 1pm on Thursday at the Church.
