Obituary

Mr. Roy Gerald, Jr., was called to eternal rest from the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC on July 1, 2012 following a period of illness.

Mr. Gerald was born to the late Roy and Rissette Atkinson Gerald in Evergreen, NC (Columbus County) on October 14, 1932.

He was educated in the schools of Robeson County and graduated from Proctorville High School.

Roy was enrolled at Winston-Salem Teachers' College (WSSU) when he was called to actively serve his Country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged following a tour of duty that included the Korean Conflict.

Upon his return to Winston-Salem, Mr. Gerald married his college sweetheart, Miriam Jean Gerald and they became the proud parents of one daughter, Princess Michelle Gerald.

Roy's work history included employment with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System (Career Center), and the Urban League.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, Golden Leaf Lodge #124, Lumberton, NC. He was also affiliated with Sethos Temple #170 in Winston-Salem, NC. He served as a pitcher for the Pond Giants.

Mr. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Miriam Jean Graham Gerald; two sisters, Vivian Ellis and Olivia Maynor; and a brother, Charlie Gerald.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories a devoted daughter, Princess Gerald; four sisters, Ava Conigland, Ruth Robinson (Maxwell), Rhonda Govan (Billy), and Elder Marion Hudgins (George); two brothers, Bruce Gerald (Eula) and Bishop Gargiolia Gerald (Margaret); four sisters-in-law, Moena G. Hinson, Dr. Clarice G. Carter, Delores Graham, and Laverne G. Gaither (Clark); brother-in-law, Hiram H. Graham; four aunts, Mollie Gerald Robinson, Annie Gerald, Elizabeth Heligh (Norman), and Luvenia Gerald; uncle, Fred Howell, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:20pm until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Mr. Wallace C. Aaron, Springwood Care Center, and the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their dedicated and professional services.
