Mrs. Roxie Ann Burns

Sunrise: August 27, 1953 - Sunset: September 9, 2024

Mrs. Roxie Ann Burns passed away on the morning of September 9,2024 at her home which she shared with her husband of 33 years, and was surrounded by her family. Roxie was born August 27, 1953 here in the city of Winston-Salem. Roxie was a high school graduate of Parkland High School . Entering into the workforce and completing additional years in the medical field allowed her to make her way to Baptist Hospital, now known as Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, where she spent 28 years before her retirement in the staff of the Respiratory and Telemetry Departments. Roxie was able to take advantage of and enjoy some of life's pleasures such as taking rides to see speed racers at Piedmont and Farmington Speedways, being adventurous taking on deep sea fishing. She developed a technique of playing Jewel Quest on her iPad , watching Family Feud and "laughing with Steve Harvey", watching Walker Texas Ranger and those "good old Westerns". Roxie was a supportive , loving member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in all her ways until her passing . Roxie " the baby of 9" was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. John Henry and Mrs. Rebecca Benson; her siblings, Mrs. Mary Jordan, Mr. Bernard Benson and Mr. Leroy Benson. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Mr. Carl Junior Burns; her daughter, Alexandria "Nikki" Benson of the city of Winston-Salem; her son, Derrick Benson of Washington, D.C.; stepson, Carlos (Deon) Davis of the city of Winston-Salem ; her sisters, Mrs. Margretta Key, Mrs. Alice Lindsey of the city of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Queen (Al) Withee of the state of Florida; her brothers, Mr. John Henry Benson, Jr. of the state of Georgia, Mr. George (Sharon) Benson of the state of Texas; Roxie shared the love of her brothers-in-law, Tommy Burns and Myron Burns; sisters- in -law, Linda Chambers, Priscilla Burns, Shirley Burns, Margret Burns, Blondie Burns, Cynthia Burns, Claire Benson;  4 grandkids; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins; and the loving support of her lifelong friend, Ruth Imes.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Monday, September 16, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Hart officiating.  Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Church.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Well Care Hospice: Mrs. Rene Crachiolo and "Miss Delinda"; and Trinity Chapel Church.
