Rosie L. Casteel Woods was born on December 20, 1945, in Meridian, MS and passed away on April 21, 2020, in Winston Salem NC, at the age of 74.
Rosie spent her formative years in Sandusky "Sandtown", Ohio. She graduated from Sandusky High School in 1963 and married the late John L. Woods that same year. She worked at various establishments and was known for her integrity and quality of work.
Her salvation was reassured before she transitioned and she requested scriptures to be read to her and Marvin Gaye gospel songs to be played for her hearing. She would raise her arms and praise Jesus even in an uncertain time in her life. In her last days she said that she couldn't live without Jesus.
Rosie was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Matthews Casteel; father, Robert James Casteel; sisters, Christine Casteel, Alberta Chambers, and Lisa Casteel Jones; nephew, James L. Payne, III; brother-in-law, James Payne; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Rosie is survived by her daughters, Tamara Woods Richardson and Tara (Trent) Moyer; her son, Dameron (Moronda) Woods; grandchildren, Tiarra Woods Fudge, Quendell Branch, Antonio Woods, Toccara Woods, Tamara Hall, Nathaniel Richardson, Temperance Richardson, Kiera Woods, Tatyana Corley, Trent Moyer, Jr., Damarion Woods, Trevin Moyer, Trinity Moyer, Tiffany Woods, and Talia Woods; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Janie Payne; brother, Robert (Donna) Casteel; ten nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Psalm 23 was her favorite chapter in the Bible and her Bible was known to be left open to that chapter.
She was probably smarter than Einstein but couldn't quite harness it to her greatest ability. She was a voracious reader until her eyes began to weaken. She enjoyed listening to country music and would say it was devoid of the vulgarity of today's music.
Rosie will be lovingly remembered for her quirky sense of humor and incredibly brilliant brain and will forever remain in our hearts.
The family is planning a memorial service at a future date to celebrate the life of Rosie Woods in Sandusky, OH once the restrictions due to COVID19 are lifted.
