Obituary

Elder Rose Arita Edwards LeGrand was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Bert Russell Edwards, Sr. and Gerta Mae Murray on November 23, 1957. Rose took her "Victory Walk" unexpectedly at Forsyth Medical Center on Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Rose obtained her degree in accounting from Salem Business College in Winston-Salem, NC in in 1986. She later started a long term career with the United States Postal Service where she was employed for more than twenty years prior to her "Victory Walk." She was dedicated to serving Christ and passionate about leading others to Christ. She was a phenomenal mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend.  Rose enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and there was nothing like being a part of a Holy Ghost filled service. She often expressed her love for her family and friends and took pride in encouraging whomever she encountered.

Elder Rose was a faithful member of Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church (The Greater). She also served as a strong advocate of domestic violence with Alabaster Place Inc.  Aside from her salvation she was most proud of her Spectacular Seven, who helped her celebrate and live life to the fullest.

She will be greeted by her mother, Gerta Mae Murray; her father, Bert Russell Sr.; and her grandparents, Reverend William J. Carter and Mrs. June F. Carter. She has a large close family that will really miss her dearly.

The memories that she leaves will forever be cherished by her daughter, Luciana Philyaw (Curtis); her son, William LeGrand; her siblings, Bert Edwards, Jr., Gary Edwards, Sr., Alvah Hayes, Lorriane Hairston, and Rodney Edwards; The "Spectacular Seven," Torius, Ezekiel, ZeHbien, Trevon, Zephaniah, Tynajza, and Zaire; her twin niece, Jasmine Hayes; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021.  Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.

The family is grateful for the many prayers, phone calls, thoughts, kind words, and encouragement that they received during this time of great loss. Special thanks to Apostle Arlene Crump Peoples, Bishop Sheldon McCarter, Verdell Hayes, and Eleathia Redfern.
