Mr. Roscoe William Taylor, 88, was born March 7, 1926 in South Carolina to Henry & Florre Lindsay. He departed this earthly life on March 20, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Health.
At the age of 17, he moved to Baltimore, MD to live with his sister, Nelly Taylor. After living there he joined the US Army. After serving his country, Mr. Taylor settled down in San Diego, CA where he became one of the first black bus drivers to operate a city bus. After 5 years of bus driving, he decided to relocate to Seattle, WA to help take care of his mother. While taking up residency, he worked for the University of Washington State. He also took on a second job in the Seattle, WA public schools. He was a lifelong member of Damascus Baptist Church in Seattle, WA.
In 2008 Roscoe decided to move back to Winston-Salem, NC to live with his niece, Interwishing McClurkin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Nelly Taylor and Isabell Roberts.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Diamond Alexander of Fife, WA; his niece and caregiver, Interwishing McClurkin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 1:30pm until 2pm on Friday at the Chapel. Interment will be held at 11am Monday, March 31, 2014 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
