Rosalyn Delores Rivers Evans was born February 28, 1951 in Hendersonville, NC. She was the oldest daughter of Clinton Mitchell and Ruby Jackson Rivers. Rosalyn excelled in school and was in the first group of black students to integrate the city school system in 1965. She graduated with honors in 1969. She was one of the first five recipients of the R. J. Reynolds Scholarship, a full scholarship to Winston-Salem State University. While at WSSU she was a member of the Marching Band and pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Ros graduated first in her class, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1973. A year later she received a Master of Science in Nursing from The Ohio State University.

Rosalyn met her future husband, Ronald Lee Evans at Winston-Salem State University. They were married in 1974. During their 51 years together, Ros and Ron laughed, visited with family and traveled everywhere – Alaska, Hawaii, The Panama Canal, Mackinaw Island, Antigua, Barbados, Jamaica, other Caribbean Islands, The Grand Canyon, every National Park in the United States, 47 states, Florence, Alabama and everywhere else! They truly enjoyed Christian Tours and each other.

After they married, Ros went to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she built a career caring for America's veterans. Her area of specialty was mental health, and she spent much of her time assisting veterans in readjusting to life after military service. She was a nurse educator and a nurse administrator - training and loving many nurses through the years.

Rosalyn had an active spiritual life. She was a member of the church of Christ for 45+ years. She served in many capacities from bereavement to beautification. She taught 2- and 3-year-olds for 30 years in the education department. For many years, she coordinated a group of nurses at the church that were on call during services and activities in case members became ill. She spoke at ladies' days and conferences on healthy living topics. Her goal for over 50 years was to help others.

Ros's family recently used words to describe her such as patient, "Calm down", worthy, protector, advisor, unconditional love, creative, precise, best friend forever, luxurious, lady, and example. Stating they have been "changed for good" by being in her family. Ros will be remembered by her sisters, Debra Johnson (Norman) of Chesterfield, VA and Cathy Turner (Kevin) of Florence, AL; her brother, Gary Rivers (Colleen) of Hendersonville, NC; her nieces and nephews, Lora Smothers (Solomon) of Athens, GA and Andrea Rivers of Pembroke, Bermuda, Garrett Turner (Bonita) of New York City, NY, Randall Turner of Charlotte, NC, Grant Rivers of Pembroke, Bermuda; their children, Ruby, Mica, Jericho, Canaan and T4, due in December. She will also be remembered by her aunt and uncles, Eva "Bena" Allen Hill (Leroy), Ronald Coleman (Lillian), Michael Coleman, all of Atlanta, and Ricky Coleman, (Judy) of Hendersonville, NC; and a special cousin, Joseph Means, Jr. of Charlotte, NC the "youngest" of the family. The family would like to give special thanks to two amazing caregivers, Gayle Key and Valentina Gomez, who gave their love and care genuinely.

Ros was such a lady, and such a child of God that she impacted people right away. She is indelibly impressed upon our hearts. Now she knows some things that we don't know - all good! Don't worry Ros, "We coming! We coming!"

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Monday, September 14, 2026 at Carver Road Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation and public viewing will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Monday at the Church.
