Obituary

Mrs. Rosa Tribble Wilson was born on July 20, 1941 in Blythewood, SC and entered into eternal rest on April 29, 2014 after a brief illness.

Although a native of SC, Rosa spent most of her life as a resident of W-S, NC where she contributed significantly to the community, her church, and others who were privileged to know her. She was known widely in the community because of the many religious, civic, and professional involvements that allowed her to help and serve others.

Rosa was an active member of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where she chaired several committees and led numerous auxiliaries over a span of four decades. She was a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Rosa served Delta for over fifty years and was most recently a member of the W-S Alumnae Chapter. She was also a member of the W-S Chapter of the Links, Inc.

Rosa was employed as one of the first African American teachers certified to teach the Gifted and Talented, now known as the Academically Gifted, curriculum in W-S/FC Schools. After teaching for thirty-four years, she retired and began working feverishly for her beloved civic organizations as a leader on the national, regional, and local levels.

Her education included graduation from Dudley High School in Greensboro in 1959, after which she entered W-S Teachers College, now WSSU, where she received the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. Additionally, she was certified in Special Education via the NC Consortium of Educators (NC State University, UNC Chapel Hill, NC A&T State University, and Appalachian State University).

Rosa was preceded in death by her loving husband, Haywood L. Wilson, Jr.; her parents, Victoria and Lewis Tribble; and her sister, Marie T. Campbell.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, LaJoi Wilson-Moore of W-S, NC; her son, Haywood L. Wilson, III (Timitra) of Charlotte, NC; sister, Henrietta T. Lee of Blythewood, SC; grandson, Montgomery Wilson Moore of W-S, NC; aunt, Beatrice G. Graham of High Point, NC; "special sister", Rhonda Wilson Adams of W-S, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends.

In celebration of Rosa's life, funeral services will be conducted at 12noon Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Prince Raney Rivers officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 10am until 11:30am, followed at 11:30am by a tribute by the W-S Chapter of the Links, Inc. The Omega Omega service of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will be held at 4pm Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Church (open to the public).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Haywood L. Wilson/Rosa Tribble Wilson Scholarship Fund at Winston-Salem State University.
