Mrs. Rosa Lee Belton Walker was born on November 8, 1935 in Winston-Salem, NC, daughter of Maybelle Henderson Belton and James B. Belton. She departed this life on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.
She graduated from Atkins Sr. High, Winston-Salem Teachers College (WSSU) B.S. Degree where she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1954, and received her Masters of Science Degree from NC A&T State University.
Mrs. Walker devoted her entire career to education, teaching in Kings Mountain, Salisbury, Thomasville, and retiring from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System after 33 years. She loved her students and treated each as though they were her child. She also was an adjunct professor at WSSU and was employed in customer relations at US Airways before retiring for the third time.
The church was a central part of Mrs. Walker's life where she was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Pastor's Aide.
Mrs. Walker was an active Life Time Member of the Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Rosa Lee Belton was married to James Edward Walker in 1965. To this union there were no children and he preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Moses and Odessa C. Belton, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her nieces, Mose' Belton (Edward) Strait, Rosa Belton (Clarence, Jr.) West, Mable Belton (William, Jr.) Patton all of the city, and Darlene Belton of Irving, TX; great-nieces and nephews, Montrice B. and Carlos Miller of Hendersonville, TN, Clarence West, III, Bonita W. and Kim Speas, Chenetta W. and Corye Clark, Monetta McCullough, and Njeri Tollier; and a host of great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to her dear friends and caregivers, Robert Brown, Jr., Sandra Mundy, and Stock McCormick.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 6:00pm Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 12:30pm Wednesday at the Chapel.
