Obituary

Ronnie Carl Peppers, affectionately known as "Pepp", passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2008. He was born January 12, 1950 to Johnnie and Sarah Peppers in Dillon, S.C. He was raised in Wilson, N.C. where he graduated from Fike Senior High School. He received his B.A. in History from Winston-Salem State University. While matriculating at WSSU, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Crops. "Pepp" worked as a production supervisor at Schlitz Container Plant and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. After separating from R.J. Reynolds he worked for the Department of Social Services. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2004.

Ronnie was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for 32 years, serving on the Deacon Board, Sunday School, Laymen League and most recently the MAAFA committee. In the community he was a Hospice and Guardian Ad Litem volunteer. He was also a member of the American Legion. Ronnie truly treasured his family.

He was preceded in death by his brother Harvey Lee Peppers.

Mr. Peppers leaves to mourn his loss, his wife of 34 years, Mildred S. Peppers; three daughters, Frances V. Peppers of Newport News, V.A., Blanche P. (U.S.N. Captain Darren) Sawyer of Waldorf, M.D., and Joneice P. (Will) Pledger of Winston-Salem, N.C.; his parents Johnnie and Sarah Peppers of Wilson, N.C.; a sister Rugina Peppers of Wilson, N.C.; a brother James A. (Belinda) Peppers of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Xavier and Alexander Sawyer, and Jaden and Carrington Pledger; his mother in-law Frances H. Strickland, four sisters in-law, Maria J. Strickland, Suzette S. (Joel) Willis and Linda Peppers. He also has five nieces and one nephew along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, April 18, 2008 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John Mendez officiating. Family visitation will be held Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Emmanuel Baptist Church from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
