Obituary

Mr. Ronald Lee Hawkins, 66 of Lewisville, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.  He was born January 29, 1954 in Forsyth County to the late Howard Hawkins and Thomasina Hawkins.  He was a loyal member of New Hope AME Zion Church in Lewisville, NC; where he served as the Chairman of the Men's Booster Ministry, a valued member of the Trustee Board, Steward Board, Usher Board, Christian Education Department, and an Honorary member of WHOM&S.  He was a member of The Voices of Praise, Male Chorus and the DLS Choirs.  He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hawkins; and sisters, Wanda Fay Hawkins-Porter and Catherine Hawkins-Speller.

Ronnie attended West Forsyth High School graduating in 1973 where he actively participated in football, baseball, and his great love softball.  After High School he went to work for Wachovia Services and as a printer for more than 25 years.  After his health started to decline, he spent his time working at the church and spending time with his family. Ronnie loved gardening, watching his westerns and maintaining the lawn.

He is survived by: his wife, Virgie Hawkins; three sons, Ronald Hawkins, Jr., Pierre Hairston, and Eddie Hairston; one daughter, Stephanie Hairston-Sanders; granddaughter, Arianna Hawkins the apple of his eye and 10 other grandchildren; his mother, Thomasina Hawkins; three sisters, Tony Hawkins, Constance Hawkins, and Brenda Jackson; one brother, Rev. Willie Hawkins; four sisters-in-law, Teressa Hawkins, Frances Dearmon, Diane Dearmon, and Peggy Dearmon; two brothers-in-law, George Porter and Kenny Dearmon. Ronnie is also survived by one uncle, Larry Kimbrough; two aunts, Anna Partlow and Bernice (James) Hill; a beloved brother, Robert Jamerson (Marie); six nieces; six nephews; eight great nieces; five great nephews;  one great- great niece; and a multitude of cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held from 12:00noon until 5:00pm Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2020.
