Obituary

Ronald Lee Evans

“You got me going in circles (oh round and round I go)

You got me going in circles (oh round and round I go,

I’m spun out over you”

Song by the Friends of Distinction

Ronald Lee Evans departed from this life on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Ronald was born on February 24, 1947 to Robert Lee and Hazel Peoples Evans. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosalyn Rivers Evans; his son, James Anthony Flack (Edna) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; his brother, Raymond Lee Evans (Shelley) of Fresno, California; his sister, Paulette Corpening (Benjamin) of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Darrell, Joshua, Stephanie and Delana Flack; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A native of Winston-Salem, NC, Ronald graduated from Atkins High School in 1965, where he won numerous swimming and diving medals and awards. Because of his swimming accomplishments, Ron won a full scholarship to Johnson C. Smith University. However, due to family circumstances, he decided to attend Winston-Salem State University (WSSU).

At WSSU, Ron was a Music Education major. Because of his dedication and energy, he was chosen to lead the Marching Ram band as the drum major. Also, while at WSSU, Ronald (Crick Moe) became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Delta Chi Chapter. “K, A, Psi. Phi, Nu, Pi. I’ll be a Kappa ‘til the day I die.”

After graduation, Ron went to work for Schiltz/Stroh’s Brewery. He retired from Stroh’s after 28 years. During the same time, Ron became a skilled tennis player. Ron used his educational training to offer clinics to many young people across North Carolina. He taught them how to swim, how to play tennis and to be mentally and physically strong. After he retired, Ron bowled and had many trophies and bowled half a dozen perfect 300 games.

In 1969, on her first day of college, Ron met Rosalyn Rivers, who became his wife on September 28, 1974. During their 51 years together, Ros and Ron traveled everywhere – Alaska, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Mackinaw Island, Antigua, Barbados, Jamaica, other Caribbean islands, the Grand Canyon, every National Park in the United States, 47 states, Florence, Alabama and everywhere else! They enjoyed Christian Tours and each other.

Ron did so much – too much to name here. He had a strong Christian belief and love for family. He had an infectious laugh that lit up his face and filled the room, he lived his life on his own terms. He laughed hard, he worked hard and he played hard. May each of us relish our good memories. The family wishes to thank each of you for all the acts of kindness expressed during this time. We thank God for His strength.
