Obituary

Deacon Ronald "Slim" Carlton was born on March 3, 1952 to Charlie Carlton and Evangelist Roberta Sarah Foster (Carlton) Groves. He departed this life on Sunday, August 23, 2015. He was married to the late Betty Carlton. Deacon Carlton was a product of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and a retired employee of Piedmont Natural Gas Company. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps.

He epitomized the title of "Deacon" which he earned many years ago. He also served as chairman of the Deacons Ministry at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. He was a strong supporter of his Pastor and his Church Family. He was very active in the church, serving as a member of the Sunday School Ministry, the Men's Ministry, Forsyth County Deacons Union, and Forsyth County Jail and Prison Ministry. His love and caring did not stop with his church. Deacon Carlton did so many good things for so many people in the community at large. He had many skills and talents that he used so generously to help his fellow man.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his uncles and aunts, Dana Foster, Earl Carlton, Joyce Howell, and Dessie Suddreth.

Deacon Carlton leaves nine siblings to cherish his memories, Mitchell (Shannon) Carlton, Drake (Sherry) Groves, and Alexander Groves of W-S, NC, Candice Carlton Ray, Charles Carlton, Bishop Steve (Linda) Carlton, and Eddie Carlton of Charlotte, NC, Sharon (Donald) Thomas and Kathy Carlton of Raleigh, NC; one step-daughter, Yolanda Creech; aunts and uncles, Robert Foster of Jonesville, NC, Sadie Parsons, Evon Carlton, and Rhonda Carlton of Wilkesboro, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, August 29, 2015 at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor James E. Cook delivering the message of comfort. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church. Burial will be held at 10:00am Monday, August 31, 2015 at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
