Obituary

Mr. Rodney B. Young, affectionately known to family and friends as "Twigg" was summoned to his heavenly home on Monday, October 1, 2007. He was born in Forsyth County to Donald B. Young and Barbara Ann Anderson Young on November 7, 1956.

Mr. Young was a graduate of Parkland High School and attended Livingstone College and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Mr. Young was a life-long member of St. Benedict The Moor Catholic Church where he served in the capacity of an usher and Lector. He was formally employed by the WSFD as a Fire Fighter Engineer and was employed by the WSFC School System working with children with special needs.

He was an avid tennis player and a member of the Kimberly Park Tennis Club, a diehard Duke fan, and enjoyed traveling and reading.

Mr. Young was a member of the National Education Association and pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Gamma XI Chapter at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

He leaves to cherish the precious memories his devoted wife and best friend, Joan Carter Young of 11 years; two children, Kenan and Michelle Carter; "Papa's" three granddaughters, DaNajah, I'Keena, and Aseelah of Winston-Salem, NC; his mother, Barbara Ann Anderson of Winston-Salem, NC; his father, Donald B. Young of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Robin Young Ashford (Alvis) of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Rencel Jones of Greensboro, NC; three aunts, Betty Dent, Reverend Constance Anderson, and Bernice Brown all of Winston-Salem, NC; one uncle, Jerry Anderson (Paula) of Winston-Salem, NC; his # 1 father-in-law, Robert Carter (Margaret); 6 brothers-in-law, John and Kenneth Carter of Winston-Salem, NC, Robert Carter, III. of Kentucky, Warren Carter of Atlanta, GA, Michael (Sharon) Carter of Sicklerville, NJ, and Lloyd Carter of Greensboro, NC; 5 sisters-in-law, Roberta Carter, Michelle Johnson, Wendy Carter and Karen Parker (Lynn) all of Winston-Salem, NC, and Vallorie Blaylock (Reginald) of Walkertown, NC; special friends, Keith Lighty (Debra) and Gregory Parker (Mia); and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.

A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held at 1pm Saturday, October 6, 2007 from St. Benedict The Moor Catholic Church, 1625 East 12th Street with Father Lawrence Heinney officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, October 5, 2007 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
