Mr. Rodney Timothy Peoples, known as "R.P.", transitioned on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at his home, 630 Barbara Jane Ave., at the age of 54.  Rodney was born on January 22, 1963 in Winston-Salem, NC to Doris Peoples Hairston and James Willie Hairston.

Rodney spent his life in Winston-Salem, NC and was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.  His occupation was a construction worker for many years.  Rodney was a kind and generous and helped anyone.  He was talented in drawing and loved sports, music, and motorcycles and cracking jokes always.  He was a sociable, compassionate, free-spirited, and full of life.  His talent in drawing landed one of his pictures hanging in the White House.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary E. Smith; grandfather, Charles S. Smith; two uncles, Don Charles Smith and Hiawatha Peoples; and one aunt, Brenda C. Smith.

Rodney was a loving son, brother, and uncle.  He is survived by his mother, Doris Peoples Hairston of the home; three brothers, Danny Crosby, Reginald Hairston, and Roderick Hairston; four sisters, Rhonda Faye Hairston, Jameita "Poo" Hairston, Audery Hairston all of the city and Rosalyn "Mookie" Hairston (Jeffery) Squirewell of Charlotte, NC; four nephews; three nieces; one great-nephew; four uncles; six aunts; a very special friend, Ms. Patricia Thomas; God-son, Cortez Moore; his best friend, Mr. Kraig McDaniels; and many cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop James Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am on Saturday at the Chapel.
