Mr. Rodney Lynn Kimble was born on March 2, 1956, in Concord, NC to the late Helen Virginia Kimble and Odell Isaiah Edmond in Cabarrus County, NC and raised by his maternal grandparents, Pearl (Roddy) Kimble. Rodney peacefully entered eternal rest on October 27, 2023, at his home in Winston-Salem, NC. Rodney was educated in both the Cabarrus County and W-S Forsyth County School Systems. He was a graduate of East Forsyth High School class of 1974. Rodney lived a full life, yet his final days gave him peace and joy spending time with loved ones and those dearest to him. He was especially happy during his frequent travels to Philadelphia for long visits with his much-loved cousins, Daniel and Marilyn Ancrum, Jr. He was a loving father, a doting grandfather and a close friend and confidant to those who knew and loved him. Rodney held a very special place in his heart for children and was devoted not only to his grandchildren, but also his nieces, nephews, and young cousins. Rodney loved God and enjoyed worship and fellowship in the house of the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Helen Kimble and Odell Edmond; maternal grandparents, the late Roddy and Pearl Kimble; two brothers, Alton Davis and Odell "Herman" Edmond; a cherished and beloved aunt, Beatrice; one niece, Rochelle Benjamin; and a host of friends and loved ones, welcoming him home.
The following is a partial list of family members that will keep his memory alive. There are far too many to list, please know that all are loved. His memory will be cherished by his children, daughter, Kayla Burns; one son, Rodney "Teon" McCoy; one grandson, Kayson Griffin; four granddaughters, LeNaria Crockett, Bella McCoy, Bentlei McCoy and Kobie Griffin, of the city; seven sisters, Olivia Kimble of the city, Harriet (Emmanuel) Benjamin-James, of Gastonia, Patricia (Tony) Young, of Charlotte, Laura (Billy Ray) Bennett, of Charlotte, Robin Benjamin, of Gastonia, Emily (Robert) Freeman, and Martha Hagood, both of Concord; three brothers, Robert "Rob" Benjamin, Jr, of the city, Theodore Benjamin, of Charlotte, John (Avis) Edmond, of Concord; eight nephews, Roderick "Man" Benjamin, of Charlotte, Lorenzo (Sarah) Swinton, of Clarksville TN, Julius Benjamin, of the city, Michael Benjamin, of Fayetteville, Casey Townsend, of KY, Odell "Lil Herman" Edmond, Jr. of Durham, Jalen Edmond and John Edmond Jr., of Concord; seven nieces, Consuella Kimble, of TX, LaVonda (DeWayne) Carver, and Janet Lindsay, of Charlotte, LaKesha Benjamin, of Lexington, Christian Swinton, of the city, Santoria Edmond, and Erica Edmond, both of Concord; especially devoted family members , Daniel (Marilyn) Ancrum Jr., of PA, Emma Jean Hamilton, Antisha Benton, Amberline Benton, all of the city; special friends, Benita Williams, of Greensboro, Diary Richardson, Willie Coker, Ben Hairston, Ravon Rousseau, and Charles Hayes of the city; and a host of other relatives and friends of which there are far too many to list.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Taylor officiating. The family visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 3:00pm on Saturday at the Chapel.
