Robert Nathaniel Yancey, Sr. was born September 27, 1926 to Robert Lee and Hindu Banner Yancey in Boomer, West Virginia. He departed this earthly life on January 10, 2015.
Mr. Yancey married Edna Chandler in 1950 and the couple had six children. Robert Yancey, Sr. served his country as a member of the US Navy during World War II and The Korean War. After his military commitment was completed, Mr. Yancey moved to W-S, NC where he was employed and retired from both AT&T (Western Electric) and Forsyth County (Reynolds Health Center).
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Edna Chandler Yancey in September 2002; and his siblings, Arizona Curtz formerly of Washington, DC and Unella Yancey formerly of PA.
Family survivors include his children, Deloris Yancey, Geraldine Yancey, Robert (Sandra) Yancey, Jr., Gregory (Deborah) Yancey, Sr., Marshay (Alicia) Yancey of OH, and Tyrone Yancey of MD; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Corena Huges of Washington, DC, Bernice Thomas, and Carrie Lacey of PA; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Friday, January 16, 2015 at First Calvary Baptist Church, 401 N. Woodland Ave. W-S, NC with Reverend Derwin Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Friday at the Church.
